第三届中国绿色发展高层论坛

　　我谨在此向参加第三届中国绿色发展高层论坛的各位嘉宾致以问候。

　　在最近一次访问中国时，我亲眼目睹了中国生机勃勃的发展变化，令人惊叹。在2010年上海世博会上，我还看到在城市设计、土地使用、大众运输、可再生能源和低碳生活领域，中国正努力探索创新方案。

　　中国的变化影响着整个世界。中国当下所做的决定将会影响到未来几代人的生活。中国是全世界增长速度最快的经济体，也是全世界最大的温室气体排放国，这其中一部分的原因是为了满足发达国家的消费习惯。

　　由于环境恶化和气候变化给发展、人权、和平与安全带来重大影响，从而在国际社会的议程上占据了重要位置，正因为如此，绿色发展的重要性已经不容置疑。在刚刚结束的坎昆气候变化大会上，我呼吁各国不光要推动全球谈判取得进展，还要在国内采取措施抑制排放提高环境修复能力。我强调指出，环境变化确实带来了严重的威胁，但同时也将机遇放到了我们面前，让我们消除污染享受清洁的空气，改善公共卫生状况，创造新的绿色就业岗位，这样我们不仅能够在短期内推动经济复苏，更能够在未来数十年间实现可持续的发展。

　　各位在座的嘉宾将目光投注于绿色发展，在中国和全世界推动此项事业取得进展，从而为全球人民创造一个更加清洁和繁荣的未来做出贡献。请接受我最真挚的祝福，祝本次论坛圆满成功！

　　MESSAGE TO THIRD CHINA INTERNATIONAL FORUM

　　ON GREEN DEVELOPMENT

　　Yunnan Province, 12 December 2010

　　I am pleased to send greetings to the Third China International Forum on Green Development.

　　During my recent visit to China, I was impressed by your country’s dynamic development. At Expo 2010 in Shanghai, I saw how China is pioneering solutions in the areas of urban design, land use, mass transit, renewable energy and low-carbon living。

　　China’s transformation is influencing the entire world. The decisions China takes today will have an impact for generations to come. China is the world’s fast-growing economy. It is also the world’s greatest emitter of greenhouse gases, partly because of its role in feeding the consumption habits of the developed world。

　　Green growth is crucially important because environmental degradation and climate change cut across the entire international agenda, with impacts on development, human rights and peace and security. At the just-concluded Climate Change Conference in Cancun, I called for progress not only in the global negotiations but also in national actions to curb emissions and increase resilience. I pointed out that while climate change poses a grave threat, it also presents compelling opportunities for cleaner air, better public health and the creation of new “green” jobs that can drive economic recovery in the short term and sustainable growth for the decades ahead.

　　By focusing your deliberations on green development, you can help advance progress in China and around the world, helping to usher in a cleaner and more prosperous future for all. Please accept my best wishes for a successful forum。
